Bistrot Bistro
Bistro
In March 2007, Valerie and Laurent Devin took a
chance with a new bistro concept on Kitsilano's trendy 4th Avenue
restaurant strip. Drawing inspiration from their childhood memories in
provincial France, they created a menu of traditional French country
fare, comprised of the kind of dishes invented to share with friends and
family over long, cozy conversation. True to tradition, the wine program
must be essential, focused on food compatibility, diversity, and above
all else, value. A state-of-the-art preservation system was installed to
ensure that each and every wine featured on the list would be available
by the glass, at any time. For even more fun a dual temperature wine
fridge filed with the best of BC and France at amazing value was added.
They then built a bright, airy dining room with a contemporary, vibrant
and colourful aesthetic, and opened the doors to Vancouver. Well, one
year later, it's clear that their plan to mix classic food concepts with
a modern atmosphere paid off. Beyond even Valerie and Laurent's
expectations.
Warmly received by a city with no shortage of choice for their dining
dollars, Bistrot Bistro teems with energy every night. This is not a
restaurant if you're looking for a quiet corner table to discuss
business, this is a spirited and bustling meeting place true to the
spirit of its unreserved neighborhood. Simple and fun are the watchwords
here.
Bistrot Bistro quickly won over the discriminating local press. Named
the Reader's Choice Best New West Side restaurant in the Georgia
Straight's 2007 Golden Plates Award, it was also a Critic's Pick for
Best New Casual and Best French. The Vancouver Sun and the
Westender both named it as one of the Top New Restaurants of 2007.
Finally pick by the panel of Vancouver magazine as one of the Best
New Informal restaurant of the year.
Valerie and Laurent understand that with so much attention comes a
certain responsibility, and so they introduced Karma Tuesdays. BB starts
each week by donating 5% of the day's proceeds to a different charity or
non-profit group. In this way they are able to give back to the
community and to say thank you for its support.
Inside the room you'll find unadorned wood tables, cozy banquette
seating, slate flooring, and an open kitchen, all highlighted by a
vibrant colour scheme. This setting encourages guests to mingle, in the
summer sun streaming in through the open garage doors that front the
restaurant, or, at night, beneath the warm glow of the candle-filled
walls. Everything about Bistrot Bistro ensures that you will feel right
at home on your very first visit, and that you will leave feeling a part
of a community.
